Rehabilitation of lower limb tendinopathies is something that our team at Cairnhill Physiotherapy is very passionate about.

Tendinopathies, also known as tendonitis, can occur in almost any tendon in the body and usually happens because it has been overworked or due to incomplete recovery between sessions. The most common tendinopathies are tennis elbow and golfers’ elbow, rotator cuff tendinopathy, Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, gluteal tendinopathy and proximal hamstring tendinopathy.

Tendinopathies can be difficult to treat and recover from and proper recovery often takes time, sometimes even months. Luckily, our team of highly experienced physiotherapists in Mt Eden are up-to-date with the most effective ways of treating tendinopathies. This usually revolves around education and load management. We also address any other risk factors that could contribute to the overload. We use different kinds of exercises tailored to the individual and the stage of their tendinopathy, such as isometrics, heavy slow resistance training or eccentric exercises or to help the tendon adapt back to normal function. We can utilise Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training to aid in decreased pain and improved strength with lighter loads.
